PURPLE, PINK AND WHITE DWARF MEXICAN PETUNIA (RUELLIA BRITTONIANA OR RUELLIA SIMPLEX)

Today's focus is on the Dwarf Mexican Petunia flowering plant. Some of its common names are Katie Dwarf Ruellia, Dwarf Purple Ruellia or Dwarf Bluebell. Its scientific name is Ruellia Brittoniana or ruellia Simplex). It belongs to the Acanthaceae family.
Dwarf Mexican Petunia is a native plant of Mexico. It is a hardy plant that can survive in very hot weather.
It hardly needs any fertilizers. It is a water plant but can adapt well to dry, poor soil conditions.
It grows in groups and is a short plant growing to a height of about 12 inches.
It is fast spreading. The seeds scatters by explosion far and wide.
Dwarf Mexican Petunia flowers are in shades of purple, pink and white and it flowers all the year round. I have all three colours in my garden. I don't know if there are other colours besides these.
It blooms well in full sunlight. More sunlight, more blooms. If kept under shade it will bloom less.
The flowers are of single flower with single layered petals and only last for a day but makes up with its continuous blooms.
It grows well in pots or in ground. It is easy to maintain and hardly any pest problems.
Dwarf Mexican Petunia are good for front borders and are grown as landscape or as ornamental plants for its showy, colourful flowers.
Once you have planted Dwarf Mexican Petunia in your garden, they are there to stay.
It can even grow in places where there is very little soil.

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine
and puts them into practice is like a wise man
who built his house on the rock.
The rain came down, the streams rose,
and the winds blew and beat against that house;
yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
But everyone who hears these words of mine
and does not put them into practice
is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.
The rain came down, the streams rose,
and the winds blew and beat against the house,
and it fell with a great crash."
(Matthew 7:24:27, New International Version-NIV)

  7. Such pretty petunias! I do think I have seen this variety before. I am more familiar with the other type, the one people plant on hanging baskets.
